I just noticed…

I have been making this comic strip for over two years now. Three hundred and sixty or so comic strips. It occurred to me just today that my main female character is named Meela, and the lead female character on Futurama is named Leela. Oh brother. Â So close. That’s unfortunate.
I watched the first couple seasons of Futurama, and will still watch it now and then, but I can’t say I count it as a favorite. (Bender is pretty cool though.) It sure looks as if I’m a-rippin them off ! I wouldn’t blame people for thinking I was. But I’m not. really. Not on purpose, anyway. Oh, bother.
Meela. Leela. Sheesh. I shoulda named her Beulah.
Futurama does have a lot of retro-futuristic themes to it (especially the ship), but its style is more of a melting pot of all the various cultures of sci-fi. Yours is more heavily set in the retro-futurism style, both in art and storytelling.
I wish I were a more sophisticated art student so I could write a better spiel about it, but long story short: I like Futurama and Space Base 8 for different reasons, they have different flavours. Apart from the “eela” I don’t seem much similarity 😉
“don’t see much similarity”… darnit, I hate it when I spot typos only in the moment immediately after posting.
Beulah? How do you even pronounce that?
